Close corporation “Trud” became interested in the proposal of ISTU mine surveyors to use navigation instruments at earth-moving machinery

ISTU Department of Mine Survey and Geodesy suggests “Trud” corporation to use navigation instruments at earth-moving machinery like bulldozers, excavators. Head of the Department of Mine Survey and Geodesy Anatoliy OKHOTIN and general director of “Trud” corporation Sergey SHABUROV discussed the possibility of assembly and further support of the technology with application of GPS/GLONASS.  


According to A. OKHOTIN, many road building companies of central Russia use GPS/GLONASS instruments to control expensive machinery.

“Thus the human factor is reduced to minimum and machinery is used more efficient. Up-to-date software allows real-time control of any transport. Using GPS/GLONASS one can monitor the location of machinery, prevent its unauthorized use, optimize fuel consumption, know about all violations and better plan the activity. Navigation instruments also make it possible to get different useful information, e.g. about the work of machinery units (excavator buckets, tipping body etc), positioning, compliance with the route etc.    

“Trud” corporation showed interest in this technology; however there are some challenges with its application. The problem is the lack of highly qualified specialists for equipment adjustment. Therefore we suggested to establish a joint working group and develop the technology at real objects. We know where to purchase quality navigation instruments and how to handle them”, - A. OKHOTIN said.  

S. SHABUROV explained that his company is getting more and more interested in automation of production processes.

"Road pavement has several constructive layers laid on road bed. It is a very complicated andlabor-intensive process. Therefore our wish to maximum automation is quite understandable. We are sure that automation will have an impact on production level and culture, efficiency, accuracy and quality of works. We are going to develop collaboration with ISTU in this area. We hope that university specialists will help us to introduce navigation instruments at earth-moving machinery and render further support. It is a good prospects for university graduates”, - mentioned S. SHABUROV.    

In the nearest future specialists of the Department and the company will have a meeting where they will discuss cooperation issues and possible testing of navigation instruments at machinery working at some obeject in Irkutsk suburb.
