German machine engineers highly appreciated the level of equipment of ISTU research laboratories

Participants of Technology Forum of Saxony (Germany) "Innovative technologies to modernize and improve the efficiency of production" visited the ISTU laboratories, which carry out the researches within the framework of the joint project of the University and Ltd. "Corporation "Irkut" for the development of advanced technologies in the aircraft industry.

The possibilities of high-tech equipment were introduced by research supervisor of the laboratory "High-performance manufacturing technology of machining, forming and hardening of machine details", Andrey Savilov. He stressed that the complex lab’s equipment is unique in its composition and has no analogues in Russia. Laboratory equipment allows solving the urgent tasks in the field of high-performance manufacturing technology of machining, forming and hardening of machine details. The laboratory carries out the experiments, which allow measuring the cutting forces, the temperature in the cutting zone, carrying out the analyses of geometric accuracy with high accuracy and the quality of workpiece surface, hardness and electrical conductivity of processed samples.

"The first machine that lay the foundation for the equipping of laboratories with modern equipment is a gift of the Irkutsk Aviation Plant, which is our partner, the main customer of research. The machine is used both for research and for student learning. At present the dynamometer plate to measure cutting forces is installed in it. The pride of the laboratory is turning machining center NEF400, five-axis milling machining center for machining of titanium DMU80P duoBLOCK German company DMG and industrial robot of Japanese company Fanuc, as well as five-axis milling center HSC75V Linear for aluminum machining. This equipment belongs to the latest generation of machines and combines all innovative technologies that are now used in the machine tool industry ", said to German colleagues A. Savilov.

Research supervisor of the laboratory reported that in the framework of the project with the Irkutsk aviation plant, ISTU scientists face challenges not only to optimize the technology, but also to automate them: "We know what we real production needs. Machines of the company DMG are used by the primary research customer - Irkutsk Aviation Plant. Having equipment of such a high level, we are leaders in the research process of high-performance machining of titanium and aluminum. Nowadays the turning machine center with driven tools carries out the experiment on machining of titanium for the Irkutsk Aviation Plant, tests a new tool of the company Sandvik (this tool is not yet on the market). There is a test of the ceramic plates for machining of titanium. We compare it with a standard carbide tools. "

There were demonstrated the instruments for determining the geometric parameters of all the main types of cutting tools to the entrepreneurs from Saxony in the thermal and constant laboratory. Tool measuring machine ZollerGenius 3 - pilot is automated and allows doing measurements due to the program with accuracy of 1 micron.

Saxon machine engineers appreciated the level of equipment of the research laboratories of the university. Director of the Joint Initiative of Aviation and Space Technology (ASIS) in Saxony Michael Mut said that he is familiar with the equipment of the Irkutsk Aviation Plant. 

"Representing the European aircraft manufacturing concern, I led the program together with the colleagues from the Irkutsk aviation plant in the framework of the cooperation in the creation of the Airbus-320. During this project I was in Irkutsk several times, but just now I was able to visit Irkutsk Technical University. I have positive impressions of the tour. Seeing modern equipment, I realized that the plant’s management and the university are deliberately collaborating, solving some research and production tasks. This is especially important now, when Russia is working on a major project for the production of MC-21. I am confident that cooperation of the university and manufacture will bring relevant results and will be useful for both staff and students of the University and for the specialists of the plant ", said M. Mut.

Upon completion of the Technology Forum of Saxony, research supervisor of the laboratory A. Savilov stressed: "The fact that the forum was held at the site of ISTU is a reflection of the high scientific level, which we have achieved. The leaders of the various areas of machine engineering, representatives of the world famous machine-tool companies came to the seminar. During the presentations I saw interesting revolutionary developments that German machine engineers plan to offer to Russian companies. There were promising reports, which can be used to project theme for the production of MC-21. We are interested in the cooperation in this area. "
