Postgraduate of the subdepartmnet of power system energy at Irkutsk Technical University, Maxim Izhganaytis, develops the optimal method for reducing sulfur oxide emissions by burning coal at TPP, Ltd "Irkutskenergo". The project is executed by order of the public policy aimed at reducing the negative impact of energy companies on the environment.
According to M. Izhganaytis, sulfur oxides from combustion of fossil fuels have a significant effect on the environment: air pollution, soil, water, and fall with precipitation. In addition, the interaction with water vapor, sulfur oxides form sulfuric acid, causes damage to the equipment. Postgraduate student noticed that there are a lot of methods to reduce emissions, but they do not apply in Russia. According to him, plant for desulfurization is being developed at the design stage of thermal power plants abroad.
"The most promising technologies in this area, we are trying to adapt to our conditions, to the equipment at the stations”, says M. Izhganaytis. “Currently a simple and very common method of so-called additive chemisorption, when the volume of gas is added to the sulfur-binding component, is selected. In this paper, we propose to add a component of the fuel. Theoretically, this will allow a more efficient mixing. The maximum effect is binding in this case - 60%.
Young scientist notices that the additive acts is a binding marble chips, which interacts with the oxides of sulfur due to the high content of calcium and magnesium oxides.
In addition, it’s explored the possibility for burning waste coal at TPP-12 (Cheremkhovo). Earlier concentrator plant worked in Cheremkhovo, the waste of which can also be used as a fuel additive to make it cheaper. The researchers gave an assessment of how the burning of this fuel will affect the treatment technology of emissions.
"By adding the main fuel combustion wastes from coal washing, we recycle them, and reduce the cost of the fuel itself. Then we add the marble chips. We also consider the use of bitumen emulsion, which will connect all into a single structure, “said M. Izhganaytis. “Advantages of the method are that it is not required to construct additional structures. Other ways are to suggest that an additional cycle for the reagent system of its filing, recycling. All simply, we mix fuel into the component, it is cleaned with ash and reduced sulfur oxides at the exit of the furnace. In this connection, it will reduce the rate of corrosion. The concentration of sulfuric acid drops, respectively equipment will serve longer. "
In 2013, the researchers plan to conduct experimental tests of the technology. On-site TPP-12 they will learn equipment operations that will produce smoke analysis. M. Izhganaytis stresses that experience should confirm the accuracy of the calculations received by mathematical modeling.
