The project “Advanced Training in Integrated Sustainable Waste Management for Siberian Companies and Authorities" (TIWaSiC) funded under Tempus IV programme of European Commission won the national ecological award of Non-Government Ecological Foundation named after V. I. VERNADSKII in the nomination “Ecological education” .
On June 5 the grand meeting devoted to the Day of Ecologist and World Environment Day took place at the Russian Presidential Executive Office in Moscow. The event became the occasion to make special mention of the contribution to the preservation of the environment made by expert ecologists as well as ordinary citizens who are concerned about environmental issues, and attract public attention to ecological problems.
In the frame of the grand meeting, the winners of the International project “Environmental culture. Peace and consent” were ceremonially awarded. Only 14 participants became the winners among 328 nominated projects from 70 Russian regions, TIWaSiC project was in the winners’ number.
Olga ULANOVA, PhD in technical sciences, the coordinator of the international project TIWaSiC, took part in the award ceremony.
Aleksandr BEDRITSKII, the RF President’s Advisor on Climate Issues, academician Nikolai KASIMOV, Vice-President of the Russian Geographical Society, and Vladimir GRACHEV, President of the Fund named after V.I. VERNADSKII presented awards to the winners.
“National award is a high appraisal of the three-year period work of our big international ecological team. It is especially pleasant to receive this award on the World Environment Day. And it is particularly honorable to receive it in the Year of Ecology in Russia. Undoubtedly, it is a very important and strong stimulus for our further work in the area of life-long environmental education aimed at the waste management problems solving for environmental safety of Russia,” Olga ULANOVA reported.
The solemnity was held with the support of the Council of the Federation, the State Duma Committee for Ecology and Environment Preservation, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment of the Russian Federation, the Russian Geographical Society and a number of public environmental organisations.
Grigorii TRUBNIKOV, Deputy Minister of Education and Science of the RF, Vladimir GUTENEV, the first Deputy Chairman of the State Duma Committee for Economic Policy, Industry, Innovations and Entrepreneurship, Aleksandr KOGAN, Minister of Environment and Natural Resources Management of the Moscow Region and others were among the guests of honour.
In the frame of the events, the ceremony of awarding an ecologist’s badge of honour took place, the results of the All-Russian environmental community work day “Green Spring – 2017” were announced and the winners of the emblem and “Green Spring -2017” video competition were awarded.
The Foundation named after V. I. VERNADSKII is one of the largest charitable organisations supporting environmental educational projects, representing the interests of Russian environmental public and socially responsible business, the initiator and participant of environment preserving programmes developing in Russia.
The national ecological award was established by the Foundation in 2003, and in 2013 it was named after V. I. VERNADSKII in the honour of the scientist’s 150-th anniversary.
