ISTU students promote application projects of the collaborators of the Institute of Solar-Terrestrial Physics SB RAS

Third year student of the Faculty of Power Engineering at ISTU, Ivan Naumov, and sophomore of the Institute of Economics, Management and Law at ISTU, Polina Konstantinova, are working to promote the project "Generator of stabilized AC voltage to provide quality food." The author of the instrument, developed for the Institute of Solar-Terrestrial Physics, SB RAS, is the chief specialist on RPDU, Andrey Orlov. Project managers are employees of ISTP, SB RAS, A. Djurik and Anna Ul’yanova. According to A. Djorik, the graduates of the course "Innovation Management, venture entrepreneurship and technology commercialization", held at the ISTU Technopark, was invited for the first time to test themselves in the promotion and packaging of scientific applications, and the experiment has been quite successful.

Generator of stabilized AC voltage is classified as Hi-End device and is designed to provide good nutrition both static and dynamic load capacity up to 2 kW. The device is distinguished by a stable output of voltage and frequency, as well as versatility: a wide range of operating frequencies at the output of 50-400 Hz.

According to I.Naumov, this voltage generator can be used to connect a variety of devices, which have higher demand to the quality of AC power. These include high-precision measurement of equipment (spectrum analyzers, noise, etc.), irradiating apparatus in cancer wards (gamma camera, linear accelerators), Hi-Fi and Hi-End audio-visual equipment. Therefore, potential buyers of the development are in these sectors of the market.

"In order to achieve high quality and non-interference in television, radio and recording studios it is necessary to take care of the supply voltage. However, most of people do not realize that almost all the air conditioning units are designed for voltage supply of computers and home appliances, while it is necessary to get other devices that can provide high-quality and non-noisy supply for the successful operation of studio equipment ", says I. Naumov.

Student-power engineer notices that no matter which electrical equipment we use, the incoming voltage contains power line disturbances (or unstable parameters) from which it is necessary to defend. They bring a real physical damage to devices. Even a small surge can cause loss of data in the memory of the digital device and noise in the equipment. There are a number of internal factors, the impact of which can adversely affect the quality of supply, such as cabling in the building. Serious "drawdown" of the voltage can be provoked by the elevator, moving from one floor to another. The larger and more complex computer network of user, the greater the risk of internal interference is.

Meanwhile, I. Naumov stresses that smooth operation of medical equipment and instruments is not only important, but vital. Uninterrupted power supply is required in intensive care, prenatal and surgical centers, halls for laboratory instrumentation and analyzers, as well as to ensure constant lighting and ventilation in hospitals and medical centers. Cancer departments use irradiating device, gamma cameras and linear accelerators in the treatment of patients, which are very demanding to the voltage supply and power quality. On-line UPS power supply, the capacity of which is from 1500 to 3000 VA, are used to reserve supply of these devices.

Experts of the course "Innovation management, venture entrepreneurship and technology commercialization" notice the benefits of the project: the proposed solution makes possible to save on assembly of the device, and remain the high quality; some indicators are better than excising analogues. The device is versatile, and its value according to preliminary estimates will be about 60 thousand rubles.

The management team plans to conduct market research untill September of this year. The experts proposed to submit the draft at the regional competition "Business of Innovation Technology (BIT) – Baikal 2013."
