ISTU students - Champions of Irkutsk among powerlifters
Student of the Institute of Architecture and Construction at ISTU, Vyacheslav Ignat’ev, and power engineering student, Roman Timonin, took the highest step of the podium at the annual Championship of Irkutsk in bench press. About a hundred powerlifters took part in a traditional tournament.
V. Ignat'ev performed in the weight category up to 59 kg, lifting 100 kg in bench press. The athlete was recognized as the gold medalist of the event. Student of power energy, R. Timonin, lifted 137.5 kg, powerlifter performed in the category up to 66 kg.
V. Ignat'ev admits that his main goal in this sport is achieved; he performed the standard of candidate master: "In order to become a candidate for master of sports, I worked hard for a year and significantly improved my results. Last year, participating in the city competitions in bench press I took the weight of 85 kg and 100 kg is my best result today. There were no serious contenders, it was more difficult to defeat myself. Now I have to practice for the specification for the title of Master of Sports. I hope that I will be able to conquer this peak in 2014. "
"Bench press is a complex exercise that requires concentration of physical and psychological forces, there is no one competitions in powerlifting without this exersice. The athlete must be prepared for a long time to properly and accurately "take the weight". I am proud that two gold medals of the competition were added to the treasury of the University Awards. There will be another primacy among the universities of Irkutsk ", says A. Nesmeyanov.
