Irkutsk State Technical University is the largest higher educational establishment of Eastern Siberia. It was established in 1930 and since then its faculty, students and alumni have made a great contribution into Russian education and culture, establishment and development of national industry and science. During its more than 70-years history the University transformed from the Siberian Mining Institute into the polytechnic one and finally into the university offering diverse academic programs - technical, natural-scientific, economic, law, humanitarian, artistic ones. This diversity distinguishes ISTU from other educational institutions. Through the years the University has trained about 100 000 qualified specialists for Russia, CIS-countries and Asian, African, Arab Eastern, Latin American, European countries as well. For special services in the area of training specialists the University was marked by state awards of our country and Mongolia. ISTU membership in various international organizations, foundations and associations is evidence of its international recognition as well.  

 In our activity we follow our traditions and 75-years history:

• complex training of specialists according to international standards to ensure the recognition of our alumni in all regions of our country and abroad;
• unity of academic, scientific and creative activity to enable students to acquire deep scientific knowledge, professional skills, ability to study and fully realize their creative potential as well;
• high level requirements towards students, faculty, educational technologies to ensure the quality of education;
• search for new original decisions in the area of educational and scientific technologies to provide the best problem solving;
• favorable intra-university environment for stimulation of the knowledge cult, free expression of thoughts, ideas, creative abilities to open the way to success to our students. Our motto is “Knowledge for yourself – achievements for Russia!”.  

Mission of the University is to provide high quality, affordable, up-to-date education, transformed through our knowledge and experience, through the development of scientific and educational technologies. Our goal is to educate  the specialists of new formation capable for practical application of new knowledge in their scientific, industrial, entrepreneurial activity.

To achieve the goals the University is guided by the following strategic trends:

• to develop new educational technologies through the support of scientific and pedagogical schools and efficient ideas;
• to provide our alumni with the possibility of “life-long education”, to contribute to their success;
